A few words about us

Camp Fire USA Lone Star Council was founded in 1913 and works to achieve its mission of building caring, confident youth and future leaders. The Lone Star Council is a non profit youth development agency and a leader in providing innovative programs to the Greater Dallas community. Today, the Lone Star Council serves more than 1,100 disadvantaged kids, young adults and family members with an array of highly effective services.

 Our vision

Lone Star Council is a premier provider of out of school time programs in apartment communities. Our goal is to help at-risk youth and young adults build the profound sense of self-worth necessary to achieve their dreams.

Our programs are designed to reach kids and young adults living in poverty and at great risk of academic failure, substance abuse, gangs, violence and dropping out of school. In total 95% of our participants qualify for free lunches and 81% are minorities.

ALL of our services are free and almost exclusively site-based at low-income apartment communities removing the most common barriers for particitipation – cost and transportation.

Our programs help kids and young adults develop personal resilience, intellectual curiosity and social values in a safe environment. Camp Fire emphasizes the importance of completing high school, pursuing a college degree, and seeking employment as a means of achieving personal aspirations and breaking the inter-generational cycle of poverty. Children do well when their families do well; therefore family strengthening is a cornerstone of our programs.
